Calming is one word a Rihanna music video is not. As a matter of fact, you can't watch one of her music videos and remain indifferent. You just can't. They all have one thing in common: motion - sleek, fluid, throbbing motion.
Just what is it about a Rihanna music video that compels us to get our groove on, too? Is it her voice? Her sinewy body? Her sensuous way of moving to all sorts of beat?
Whatever it is that Rihanna has, it is potent. She has the hipper, younger half of the nation all tickled and eager to stand under her umbrella-ella-ella. The starlet channels a glut of personalities in her music videos. She was chic and sophisticated in Take a Bow as she drove a Porsche around Venice in a red leather jacket, black trousers, and black lacy top. She was every bit the siren as she danced to the disco-ey S.O.S (Rescue Me). In Don't Stop the Music, Rihanna showed us the timelessness of the little black dress as she begged us not to stop the music.
And what of the music video Umbrella? In Umbrella, Rihanna brought the word sultry to life. She oozed sexiness from every pore as she tells us we can stand under her umbrella. Not surprisingly, Umbrella became a runaway success. It not only topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it held that position for seven weeks! In the UK Singles Chart, it hogged the number one sport for 10 consecutive weeks, making it the longest-running chart-topper in a decade!
Not one to rest on her laurels, the star has another music video coming out, Disturbia. Made under the direction of David LaChapelle, this music video has been raking a lot of hype. Insiders say it continues the direction Gone Girl Gone Bad has taken and presents an edgier, more complex Rihanna.
