Superb Nole tops Nadal, wins first US Open title!!!

Impressive Novak is the new US Open champion!

Amazing season continues…magnificent performance for tenth title in 2011 and 28th career trophy!

In a remarkable Monday for Novak Djokovic, the top-seeded Serb lifted his first US Open trophy at third attempt after defeating no.2 seed and defending champion Spaniard Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1 in 4 hours and 10 minutes in the final in New York.

It is the sixth time this year that Djokovic and Nadal have played the championship match, and again it was Nole who emerged superior, winning his fourth career Grand Slam.

Nole and Rafa met for the 29th time. They produced astonishing tennis in classic final with epic rallies that brought the fans at the packed stadium to their feet.

Nole walked into Arthur Ashe Stadium wearing a cap adorned with the New York City fire department logo (FDNY), paying tribute to September 11.

In each of the first two sets, Nadal had a 2-0 lead, but Nole came back strong and won both.

In the opening set, Djokovic won six straight games to take it 6-2 in 53 minutes.

Nole found himself down 0-2 again at the start of the second set. He broke back after an epic third game that lasted more than 17 minutes and included eight deuces. The Belgrade native used his sixth break point opportunity and then held to level the result. He broke Nadal’s serve once again and consolidated the break for 4-2 lead. Rafa made a break in the eighth game but Novak kept him under constant pressure with some brilliant returns and won two games in a row to clinch the set 6-4.

The third set was the longest, it lasted 84 minutes. Novak was a break up three times and had a chance to serve out the match at 6-5, but Nadal fought back and secured a tie-breaker. The Spaniard won it 7-3.

Nole regained his composure in the fourth set. He held in the opening game before taking a medical timeout to treat his aching back. After that he broke Nadal twice, in the second and sixth games and served out the set and match 6-1 to lift his maiden US Open trophy.

Nole has closed the gap on Nadal's lead in their head-to-head series, beating the Spaniard in their past six meetings to narrow it to 16-13.

The Serbian star improved to 64-2 on the year and confirmed his status as the world's best player with a stunning victory. He now holds the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open titles.

" It really sounds unreal. It's an incredible feeling, " Novak said at the ceremony.

" I've had an amazing year and it keeps going. Every time I play Rafa, it's a big challenge. I want to congratulate him on a great tournament again and I wish that we have many more tough matches in the upcoming years. It's an absolute pleasure to be a part of the very few players that have won this trophy throughout history. "

" Obviously I'm disappointed now but Novak's done unbelievable things, so I just want to congratulate him. What he did this year is probably impossible to repeat. " Nadal said. " I tried my best in every moment. These kind of matches are very difficult, it brings your body to the limit. I tried to play crazy but he always makes fantastic comebacks. "

Novak produces astonishing comeback for third shot at title in New York!

Unbelievable comeback two years in a row! Truly outstanding performance!

Novak fought back from two sets down and saved two match points to defeat no.3 seed and five-time US Open champion Roger Federer 6-7(7), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 for a place in his third US Open final!

The top-seeded Serbian star will attempt to become the sixth man in the Open Era to win three major titles in the same year after he fought past the Swiss in 3 hours and 51 minutes on Saturday.

As both players held their serve, the opening set went into a tie-breaker. Nole was 3-6 down, but managed to come back and level the result. The Serb saved one more set point, but Federer used his fifth chance and won it 9-7 in 55 minutes.

Djokovic was broken in the third game of the second set. He fought back in the sixth game, but the Swiss broke him once again in the seventh, kept the advantage and took the set 6-4.

Being two sets to love down, Novak knew he needed to change something to get back into the match. He was more aggressive, his returns were much better, his body language showed he believed. The 2011 Australian Open and Wimbledon champion broke Federer’s serve in the second game and held comfortably for 3-0. The 24-year-old closed the set 6-3.
Nole carried his momentum into the fourth set and with two breaks, for 6-2, levelled the match at two sets all.

The decisive fifth set went on serve until the eighth game. Novak double-faulted to hand Federer three break points and the Swiss converted the first for 5-3 and a chance to serve out the match. The Basel native earned two match points, but Nole came back from the brink of defeat like last year. He saved them both and capitalised on the second break point opportunity to stay in the match. The world no.1 overpowered the Swiss once again to grab another break in eleventh game and served out the set and match 7-5 for historic victory!

This is Novak’s 10th win out of 24 matches they played.

It is the first year since 2002 that the 16-time Grand Slam champion has not won a major title.

" It was definitely the biggest win this year," Djokovic said on court immediately following his victory. "One of the biggest wins of my career. "

Novak through to US Open semis after epic battle!

Novak is through to his fifth career US Open semi-finals!

Top-seeded Novak Djokovic came through his toughest test so far at Flushing Meadows on Thursday, winning his quarter-final match against fellow Serbian and world no.20 Janko Tipsarevic.

Novak was leading 7-6(2), 6-7(3), 6-0, 3-0 when Janko decided to retire due to injury after 3 hours and 27 minutes.

In the most dramatic match so far at the last Grand Slam of the season, the world no.1 clinched his 62nd victory in 2011 and is only one step from defending 1200 points he won last year by reaching the finals.

The first two sets were long and brilliant. It really was a titanic battle with great points, beautiful and breathtaking tennis.

The opening set at the world’s largest tennis stadium lasted 1 hour and 24 minutes. Confident Janko started better, breaking Novak in the very first game. He had another break point in the third game, but Nole managed to save it with a blistering ace. Djokovic capitalised on his second break point in the fourth game with a stunning forehand down the line and leveled the result. One more break in the sixth game and a hold for 5-2 lead, but Janko fought back, broke Novak’s serve twice to go 6-5 ahead. The 2001 Australian Open junior champion was serving for the set when Nole put the pressure on him and broke back to lead the set into a tie-breaker. The 24-year-old Belgrade native won it 7-2.

Tipsarevic put the disappointment of the lost set behind him and opened the second set with a commanding service game. Novak started the second set like the first. He double-faulted to hand Janko three break points. Janko used his chance, made an early break and held to increase his lead to 3-0. He again had opportunities to expand the lead, but failed to convert two break points in the fourth game. Nole came back, breaking Janko's serve in the fifth game and holding for 3-3. The set was also decided in a tie-breaker. This time Tipsarevic claimed it, 7-3, and leveled the match at one set all.

Nole was dominant in the third set. He stepped up his game and raced to 6-0 with a triple break.

Janko was struggling with his movement and could no longer carry on. He retired being 0-3 down in the fourth set.

Novak makes history, captures Montreal title on no.1 debut!

Invincible Novak continues his total tennis domination this season!

The world no.1 defeated sixth-seeded American Mardy Fish in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in 2 hours and 23 minutes in the Rogers Cup final to capture his ninth title in 2011 and 27th career trophy!

Novak is having a historic season on the ATP World Tour. He has become the first man ever to win five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles in the same year. The Serbian has also become the first men's player to win a tournament in his no.1 debut since Pete Sampras did it in 1993.

“ History making, of course it’s special,” Novak said about the fantastic accomplishment. “Of course, it’s an honour and privilege to be part of the history of the sport that I love and that I play. ”

After saving break points in the third and fifth games, Djokovic broke the last two Fish serves to take the first set 6-2 in 38 minutes.

Novak lost his momentum in the second set. The American broke him twice, in the fifth and ninth games, to level the match at a set each.

Novak showed his strength and character of a true champion in the decisive third set. He made a crucial break in the fifth game and kept the advantage till the end to clinch the remarkable victory.

Match statistics: aces (4-7), double faults (2-3), winners (19-29), unforced errors (29-42).
Djokovic’s first serve win percentage was 70, compared to 72 for Fish.

Novak capitalised on 3 of his 8 chances for break, while the American converted 2 of his 10 break points.

" It was another great effort from Novak, I'm getting a bit tired of this though, " joked Fish.

" I'm not getting tired of this (victories), it was a pleasure playing against Mardy. My team and I have done it again, " said Novak. " It's so great to win another title. We played a great match, I had a few lucky points in the third set to break. "

Dreams come true: Novak crowned Wimbledon champion!!!

NOVAK DJOKOVIC is 2011 Wimbledon Champion and from tomorrow the new world no.1!

Serbian star Novak Djokovic continued his enthralling form in 2011, with a fantastic 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win over defending champion and top-seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the finals at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday to capture his first Wimbledon trophy and third career Grand Slam title!

Novak’s career has been leading up to this moment. " My ambition or goal is to become no.1, " he was saying. " My dream is to win Wimbledon. "

He’s now realised both. By reaching the Championships final, Novak guaranteed himself the no.1 ranking, and by winning the grand final, he will have his name written in history of tennis as a winner of the most prestigious tournament in the world.

" It's really hard to describe this with words except as the most special day of my life," said Nole at the trophy ceremony. "This is my favourite tournament, the one I always dreamed of winning, the one I watched when I was a child. It feels like I am still dreaming. When you're playing the best player in the world, who has won two of the last three Wimbledons, and he wins the big matches against me, I had to be on the top of my game and play probably my best match on grass ever. "

Only two other men in the Open Era (since 1968) have won their first career grass-court titles at Wimbledon – Michael Stich in 1991 and Andre Agassi in 1992.

This has been been a great match with both players on great form. Novak has never beaten Nadal in a major before, but he’s beaten him in all four ATP finals this year, so he got into the match full of confidence and self-belief. As he has done all year, the new world no.1 played aggressively and gave his opponent few chances.

Novak got this clash underway by serving first. Both players held their serves till the tenth game, when Djokovic put the pressure on Nadal and broke him to take the first set 6-4.
The 24-year-old Belgrade native raced through the second set with a double break for 6-1 in 33 minutes.

There was a shift in momentum in the third set. Nadal won it 6-1, breaking Djokovic in the second and sixth games.

Novak faced scare in the opening game of the fourth set, but he held to put himself ahead. We then saw an exchange of breaks when the Spaniard came back from 0-2 to level at 2-all. Nole made a crucial break in the eighth game. He earned three opportunities and capitalised on the second for 5-3 lead. The best Serbian tennis player then served out the set and match 6-3 for the fifth consecutive win over Rafa and first Wimbledon title.

" I can't find words to describe the feeling that I have right now," said Nole, shortly after he captured the third Grand Slam championship title of his eight-season professional career. "I managed to achieve a lifetime goal and I managed to make my dream come true, all in three days' time. It's just an incredible feeling that I'm never going to forget. This is the best day of my tennis career. "

" Congratulations to Novak and his team for the victory and his amazing season, " Rafa said. " When I won in 2008 my emotions were very high so I can imagine what it is like for him. I tried my best as always but he was better than me. "

Match statistics: aces (7-5), double faults (1-1), winners (27-21), unforced errors (12-15).

Djokovic has been in spectacular form this year. He improved his record in 2011 to amazing 48-1 taking the Australian Open and Wimbledon title and winning six other tournaments. Nole’s explosion of success came on the back of his superb performance in leading Serbia to the Davis Cup title, last December.

Novak proved himself the best player in the world with a stunning victory and became the first Serbian man to win Wimbledon.
He is ready to capture more major championships. "This is what I'm born for. I want to win more Grand Slams. I will definitely not stop here."

The dominance will finally show tomorrow when the new ATP Ranking list is announced. Nole's name will shine at the world no.1 for the first time. He will have 13,285 points, 2,015 more than the second-ranked Nadal.

Novak into last four after Fognini withdraws!

Novak is one victory away from becoming world no.1!

Second seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the French Open semi-finals without hitting a ball after his quarter-final opponent world no.49 Italian Fabio Fognini told at news conference on Monday he was pulling out because of injury.

The pair were due to play on Tuesday but the Italian has not recovered from cramps and muscle problems sustained in Sunday's long five-set victory over Spaniard Albert Montanes.

" I have a little problem with my left left leg so I have to retire, " Fognini said.

"My doctors said if I play tomorrow maybe it can be dangerous. It's the best tournament of my career. But this is the best solution."

Nole is on a 41-match winning streak since the start of the year, just one behind John McEnroe's 1984 record.

His progression to the last four will not count as part of the streak, so the world number two will have to win the title for the first time if he is to break the American's record at Roland Garros.

Invincible Nole conquers Rome, clinches 25th career title!

The most dominant player on the tour, Novak Djokovic, keeps the dream alive.

The world no.2 continued his perfect start to the 2011 season with a fantastic 6-4, 6-4 triumph over top-seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the finals at the Foro Italico in 2 hours and 12 minutes to capture the Rome Masters trophy, his seventh ATP title this year.

This is Nole’s ninth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title, and his second in Rome (he beat Wawrinka in 2008 finals).

It was the fourth final between the two best players in the world this year, and Nole’s fourth win over the world no.1. Djokovic was victorious also in Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid.

Novak broke Nadal's serve in the eighth game for 5-3 and was serving for the set when the Spaniard broke back. Nole continued being aggressive. He hit a fierce forehand onto the baseline and Nadal returned into the net to hand the Serb a first set point. Djokovic took full advantage of it, stepping inside the baseline and hitting a backhand across court for a winner to take the set 6-4.

Novak made a break in the second game of the second set for 2-0 lead, but the top seed of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Rome fought back immediately and held to level at 2-all. The players held their serves until the tenth game when Djokovic decided to take more risk. His aggressive approach paid off and he earned three break/match points. Nadal was serving great and saved all three, but Novak fired another huge forehand which the Spaniard returned long to hand him match point no.4. The Serb grabbed the opportunity for 6-4 and his fourth Masters title in 2011!

Novak downs Murray in thriller, faces Rafa in Rome finals!

The Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is still unbeaten in 2011!

No.4 seed Andy Murray got really close to ending Nole’s run, but the Serb prevailed in a thriller 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (2) on Saturday evening to progress into the finals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, his seventh ATP final of the season.

The world no.2 started strong breaking Murray in the second game of the opening set. The Scot broke back immediately, but Nole converted two more breaks of serve in the fourth and sixth games, and served it out to 15 for 6-1.
Novak hit 11 winners to Murray’s 4, and made 8 unforced errors to the Brit’s 14.
