Beyonce covers March issue of Vogue magazine

In her recent interview with Vogue, Beyonce admits she doesn't read comment sections on websites to avoid getting her feelings hurt...

From Vogue Magazine
Beyoncé cannot insulate herself from every crazy and idle rumor. When she encounters a story about herself on the Internet, she reads only the story. She stops there. She doesn’t let herself scroll down into the comments sections, which have a tendency to become cruel, ad hominem free-for-alls.
“Don’t scroll down!” Beyoncé advises, laughing. “You’re definitely going to get your feelings hurt.”

EFCC re-arraigns Femi Fani-Kayode over alleged money laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday re-arraigned a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, over alleged money laundering.

Fani-Kayode appeared before Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of a Federal High Court in Lagos, on a 47-count charge. He, however, pleaded not guilty.

His counsel, Chief Ladi Williams, prayed the court to allow him to continue with the bail granted him by Justice Ramat Mohammed, who earlier handled the case.

Williams also prayed the court to allow Fani-Kayode the liberty to travel abroad at will for medical check up, as granted him by Justice Binta Murtala- Nyako, who also had handled the case.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prosecution counsel, Mr Nelson Okedinachi, did not object to the applications.

Thus, Ofili-Ajumogobia held that the defendant would continue with the bail granted him by Mohammed, before whom he was first arraigned in December, 2008.
The judge adjourned the case to March 11 for substantive trial.

Abuja woman accused of killing her husband discharged & acquitted

An Abuja High Court on Friday 8th February discharged and acquitted Hadiza Afegbua Abutu (pictured above right), of all charges of killing her husband, Ibrahim Abutu, (pictured left with their child).

Hadiza was accused of killing her husband in December 2011. According to the family of late Ibrahim Abutu, Hadiza allegedly used a double barrel gun in shooting her husband in cold blood, supposedly over his plans to marry a second wife.  (If you missed the story, read it HERE)

Hadiza was found not guilty and is a free woman now!

Dear LIB readers: is it proper to answer sir to your husband?

From a LIB reader:
My colleague does this and when I advised her to stop it, she took offense and stopped talking to me. She said we modern women have no respect any longer, that her mum called her father sir and told her it was the respectful thing to do. Whenever her husband calls her on the phone, she answers sir. Is that respect or fear?
I think calling your husband sir is ridiculous! Your boss and an older person, definitely, but not your spouse.

Pope Benedict XVI to resign on February 28th

Pope Benedict XVI will resign on February 28, 2013, a Vatican spokesman said today Monday February 11th. The 85-year-old German-born Pope said he was resigning because he no longer has the strength to fulfill the duties of his office. If the Pope resigns February 28th, he will be the first pontiff since 1415 to step down. See the Pope’s full resignation statement after the cut...

Dear Brothers,

I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church.

After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry.
I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering.

However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.

For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.

Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff.

With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.

Quote of the day
